The Teacher's Choice:Permissiveness or Authority?

Most of us have had at least one really great teacher and one with whom we couldn't find the common language. We all know what qualities we like and expect in a teacher and judge every representative of this profession being guided by our personal criteria. So what kind of the teaching style is ideal? Should it be authoritarian or permissive?

The authoritarian teacher is often described by students as a screamer. This teacher expects children to obey and when they do not, this type of teacher has little management abilities beyond constant yelling at the students to get them back in line. Very little is allowed past this teacher as every little infraction is caught and disciplined. Students may obey this teacher but mostly out of fear, and the teacher will blame the discipline problems in class on the students.

The permissive teacher is one who really just wants to be friends with her students. She may plead with students to raise their hand or follow other simple rules, but does not have a firm discipline plan in place. While students may say they like this type of teacher, when it comes down to a difficulty, students know that the teacher will not take care of a problem and will often try to take matters into their own hands as a result.

The most important things you need to do to be a good teacher are being patient and get the subject across to your pupils. In other words explain everything well, and don't assume if someone doesn't understand they either should because you do or that they were not listening as it is not there fault.

It also doesn't help if instead of explaining better you just shout or say the same explanation louder than the time before.

The teacher should be the one who has an orderly classroom, a strong discipline plan and is caring and supportive. Students respect this teacher and know that they can go to her with problems of any kind no matter how big or small. While this style of teaching is ideal, it can be difficult to achieve.Teachers need to spend time regularly reviewing their teaching style, after all the work of the teacher - it is a real art.

Outstanding People and Outstanding Abilities

As a baby, Daniel Tammet cried constantly and banged his head against the wall. His parents were frantic but all doctors could suggest was that he was understimulated. One afternoon when he was four, an accident changed the way Daniel thought forever. While playing with his brother in the living room he suffered a series of epileptic seizures which transformed his brain chemistry, giving him the gift of synaesthesia. This condition occurs when the parts of the brain responsible for different areas of perception get mixed up. Brain scans of autistic savants suggest that the right hemisphere might be compensating for damage in the left hemisphere. While many savants struggle with language and comprehension - skills associated primarily with the left hemisphere - they often have amazing skills in mathematics and memory - primarily right hemisphere skills. Daniel began to respond emotionally to numbers, which he started to see as complex, beautiful shapes and textures.

Daniel Tammet is an amazing person! Tammet can learn new languages very quickly, he speaks ten languages including: English, Spanish, French, German, Finnish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Icelandic, Welsh, and Esperanto. Oh, I dream to possess such abilities. That is why I like this man and his abilities.

 

Modern IT (Internet Technologies) in EFL teaching

EFL teaching methodology has been debated for many years, but the benefits of technology can bring to the classrooms are only just beginning to be discovered. There are many uses of technology in the classroom.

Successful communication learning is dependent on the student's desire to participate. I'm sure most teachers are familiar with students who complain about poor speaking and communication skills, which however, when asked to communicate, are often reluctant to do so.

Many English teachers do not use or are not able to use technologies in teaching. However, there are some of them are active and seek for new methods and modern trend technologies in teaching. Most students don’t like to study English because of its difficulty and the unfamiliar custom in their daily lives. As English subject period comes, it means boring time for them arrives. Some of them, in that time, talk, some sleep and some do other subjects homework. It s the main problem of general English teachers. They do not just teach English only but they have to manage classroom conditions also. One way to attract students in studying English is using technologies such as internet, computer programs, videos and online lessons. They can make students more interesting. They could feel that English is not boring but interesting and fun. It also results to higher scores and achievement. The students can practice all four skills listening, speaking, reading and writing with the program. I think it is very important to teach English wit new technologies. Moreover, the more important is the teachers have to be tecnologypersons first and they have to seek and search for new teaching methods from several sources.

One way to use computers for English Language Learners is to teach vocabulary. Students need to learn vocabulary in context and with visual clues to help them understand. Computers can provide this rich, contextual environment. I think, computers can incorporate various learning strategies as well as accommodate a variety of learning styles.

Students can operate computer in learning process that can enhance them to learn freely. It can be a useful instrument in teaching because it can provide virtual, realistic picture and also animations using computer in the classroom.

I think, this a good way to apply technology in the EFL classroom because there are many advantages for the classroom.

What Does Friendship Mean in Your Life?

 Friendship development is a very important part of society, culture, and life. Without friends where are you? What can you accomplish? Some people surround themselves with friends, while others believe that they do not need any and that they can make it on their own. Despite what some people believe friendship development is necessary!

Friendship is key to being happy and living longer, believe it or not. Because with friends, you are more likely to try new things and do things together with them that you would not do alone.

Life can be lonely and having a good friend can make all the difference in the world. It really is true that to have a good friend, one must be a good friend. Best friends are without a doubt some of the most special people around for us.

It's been often said that a best friend is your soul mate. Soul mates are also two people tied together by spirituality like no other. Best friends are for life. But a soul mate is eternal.

Casual friends come and go. We find them at work, at school and in many different walks of life. Casual friends are important because there aren't any emotions involved in a casual friend. Have you ever heard the saying that "you always hurt the one you love". Well, it's true. Because a true friend is a person you care deeply about and in trying to help them, sometimes, we hurt them.

I can count on just one hand the number of people I love in this world more than life itself. They have been true friends to me throughout my entire life and no matter what happens they will always be loved by me and I will always be loved by them.

I have a friend, a romantic friend, which I keep in touch with through email and the occasional package or letter. This friend was someone I knew in school, who I was truly fond of, sort of dated, and then fell out of touch with him after he moved on in life. Recently we have gotten back in touch due to the power of the internet, and although I do not have a romantic relationship with him, he's most certainly a romantic friend.

 If you want to keep a good friend, avoid one of the pitfalls that happen with many friendships. Inevitably, one of you will find that “special someone”. If this happens to you and you want to keep yore friend, you must take care to never ignore your friend. Men, women, dates and relationships will come and go; your friendship should surpass all of this and remain intact no matter what. Many people have found that they ignore a friend once they find a relationship, and then when that relations ends they want their friend back. Then, they find their friend is gone. A good friend needs respect, caring and kindness. You should think of your friend on holidays and especially their birthday. You should be there when they are sad and need a shoulder to cry on. You should do favors for your friend, knowing that you may need a favor someday. And most importantly, never take a good friend for granted because a true good friend is hard to find.

 

Love Story for Valentines Day

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in the UK, and one day a new family moved in to the street, where upon the girl fell in love with the boy of the family – she was 9 he was 11. The girl also made best friends with his sister. After 3 years the family decided to emigrate to Australia…the girl was devasted, she told her mum that the boy was going to be her husband one day as she loved him. Her mum told her not to be so silly as girls of 9 or 10 don’t fall in love.

  

The family went to Australia and the two girls continued to write to each as pen pals. The girl dated many other suitors whom she liked but she never forgot her first love who also gave her her first Valentines Day card, which she still keeps in a box with a ribbon.

Many years passed and the boy decided to come to the UK on a holiday with his sister and wrote many letters to the girl telling her he would visit one day.

Then one day, true to his word he arrived in a white car and as their eyes met in the girls home they both ‘knew’ that they liked each other. They saw each other as often as they could but they still hadn’t said anything to each other as to how they were feeling.

    

After 3 weeks of holidays there in the UK the boy proposed to the girl who said «Yes! Yes! Yes!»….and then the boy had to go back to Australia. They had a wonderful engagement and a big party and her family loved the boy whom they knew and liked before he had emigrated. The boy then left to go back to work in the bush for a year while the girl prepared for the wedding.

A year later the boy and his whole family came back to the UK and they had a lovely wedding, and after the wedding the girl said a tearful and sad good bye to her family and moved to live in Australia with the man of her dreams. Her parents were very sad as she was their only child, but happy that she and the boy were happy, married and in love ……………….

 And they lived happily ever after.

Saint Valentine's Day

Romantic festival of St Valentine's Day is celebrated with enthusiasm and fond regard in several countries around the world. Most commonly observed Valentine's Day tradition and custom is expressing one's love with an exchange of cards, flowers and gifts. Pampering one's beloved and making a romantic proposal to one's sweetheart is the other popular tradition of the festival that celebrates love.
One of the most commonly observed Valentine's Day customs is the exchange of love notes called ‘Valentines'. Initially people used to exchange handwritten notes but starting with the 19th century, the practice of sending hand written notes was replaced by the exchange of mass-produced greeting cards. Gradually, Valentine's Day cards came to be gifted to teachers, siblings, parents, friends and dear ones along with sweethearts.  
There exists a strong tradition of indulging one's beloved with gifts of love. Some of the most popular gifts exchanged between lovers on Valentine's Day are fresh flowers - mainly roses, chocolates and teddy bears. 
The other most traditional way to celebrate Valentine's Day is to go for romantic candlelight dinners with one's Valentine. Many also choose to propose their dates in such a romantic setting and say the golden words, ‘I love you'.
I think that on the Day of Saint Valentine it is possible to found such tradition,like: starting balloons in the sky, with confessions  in love, written on the ribbons of scarlet color. As a symbol of love and happy life together. It would be not bad also to sit in some cafe or restaurant and to sing together in caraoke a song about love. Or the couple of two lowers could go in the cinema on some romantic comedy, on the last row:)

How to make your Vocabulary Better

One powerful method that you can use to make your vocabulary better is to build your own dictionary.
While regular dictionaries can helpful, their biggest disadvantage is their sheer size. There are too many words to learn, and you are limited in terms of the time you have.
It is better to build a dictionary of words you come across as you read. If the word interests you, write it down, and when you're done reading, look it up in a dictionary, and list it in your notebook. You may also want to write a sentence that shows how the word should be used. If you do this each time you come across an unfamiliar word when you read, your vocabulary will become massive.
As you collect words and place them in your personalized dictionary, you will want to go over them often. You will want to make it your goal to use them at least once a day when you speak, or when you write a paper. The more you use the word, the more likely it is that you will remember it. Just placing the word in your dictionary is not enough. It must be applied in you every day speech. Building your own dictionary is very powerful, because over time, you will have a collection of words that are suited to you. A number of studies have shown that a word must be used at least 10 times before it is embedded in a person's brain.
You have no doubt heard about the importance of using flashcards. Flashcards have always been a popular method to help people remember important information. This is especially true when you want to increase you vocabulary level. You can use these flashcards by writing the word and the sentence on the front, and on the back of the card, you will want to write the definition of the word, along with a sentence that puts the word in the proper context. Every so often, you will want to test yourself by reading the back to determine the information on the front, and vice versa. It is also important for you to use your senses when learning a new word.
Instead of just saying the word, you will want to hear the word, see the word, and write it down. When you use more than once sense, you will increase the chances that the word will be permanently placed into your memory. It will also be crucial for you to make sure these words are used when you talk to people, and when you need to write something. By using the word for various tasks, you will become more proficient with it. While this may seem like a lot of work, in the end, it will pay off. Having a strong vocabulary can be very profitable.
When you increase your vocabulary, you will impress people. Depending on who you impress, a number of doors can open, doors that would be closed to someone who uses a normal vocabulary level. People will see you as being someone with intelligence, and it will be obvious that you are also a person that is well informed.

Once upon a time there was a young man, whose name was Brian.

It was the 31-st of October, Halloween’s Eve and all young people of his higher school were going to celebrate Halloween that night. They were brave and risky like all teenagers, so they’ve decided to celebrate it not in a club, but in on old deserted cemetery, in one of the crypts. It was rather huge to hold the crowd of elephants, not only people.

So the boy dressed up the costume of Black Prince and left his home. While he was going to the cemetery, the weather was getting worse and worse. The strong wind was blowing severely. It was getting darker and darker, because heavy black clouds were hanging over the city. It started raining. Heavy lead drops were falling on the ground. He met nobody while he was going along the city streets. But when Brian went out of the city, suddenly three silhouettes appeared. They were three Ugly Witches.

Three Ugly Witches: «Where are you going? »

Brian: «I’m going to have the Halloween celebration on the deserted cemetery with my friends and classmates. »

He didn’t suppose them to be real witches, but they really were.

Three Ugly Witches: «We would like to join. »

He didn’t mind, so they continued going ahead together.

Suddenly Little Sad Ghost flew up to them and howled: «Woooooohohohohoho-ooooooo!!!!!!!»

Brian (burst out laughing): «Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! An awesome costume, by the way! Where did you take it? Next year I would like to have the same!»

Then they met a vampire with a cadaveric smell, pale skin and bloody-red eyes, a couple of werewolves and zombies.

Brian didn’t guess that they were real, but they really were.

At last they approached the cemetery. But in a moment a heavy cloud covered a full moon and it became as dark as inside the coffin. Suddenly another one figure appeared from nowhere. All evil creatures began trembling like the leaves on the birch. «Oh, Master! Oh, Master! » – They were whispering. It was a real Grim Ripper with a real scythe. But Brian didn’t guess that he was real, still he really was.

Brian: «You’ll definitely be the King of the party! It’s only due to your scythe! Why hadn’t I got such an idea? »

Grim Ripper: «Don’t worry, Brian!» (And the flock of the bats soared into the sky.) «You’ll be the King of the party tonight! If you do me a favor, of course. Just help us! »

Brian: «What should I do? »

Grim Ripper: «Don’t ask now. You’ll see then. It’ll be an innocent trick! Ha-ha-ha-ha!!! »

The boy thought that it will be a kind of a riddle or a quiz as they have annually. So, he agreed and they entered the gates.

Soon the company reached the crypt. The celebration was in full swing! MMMMMmmmm…… It was a great spectacle! Costumed evilspirits of all kinds were having a great time! Hard rock music and thick smog accompanied wild dances and laughing. Glowing Jack` o` Lanterns supplemented the sinister.

 Brian met some friends and forgot about his companions. But they didn’t lose time in vain, they were doing their job. The boxes of little green bottles appeared by just one waving of Grim Ripper’s scythe. The ghost, the vampire and the Three Ugly Witches were giving green bottles to the teenagers here and there. By this magic potion they would make all young people absolutely cruel, bloody-minded, murderous and ruthless. And at last they would take their souls.

Boys and girls were drinking that potion and began to lose their feelings, memories, emotions, wishes, besides only one- the hunger of blood and murder.

It was almost midnight- the apogee of the celebration. The King of the party has been already chosen, no doubt it was Brian. 

Grim Ripper: "You should find the Queen of the Party, the most beautiful and innocent girl, and kill her! She should agree to be a victim by her own will, not by force. If you do so, you would be the King of Halloween forever! "

Terrible promises for achieving their miserable goals… Satanic mission was almost completed. Brian was searching for a girl. He was going through the crowd and looking at the faces. The girls dashed different directions away from him in panic. At last he found her. She was his classmate, Jenny. She fell in love with him at once, in the first grade. But he didn’t return her love. She still continued loving him, just inside her heart, never showing him her feelings. But she always was somewhere nearby. Always was smiling, helpful and caring. Brian didn’t guess she still loved him, but she really did.

So, it was Jenny. She really was an incredibly beautiful girl. She didn’t have an awful make-up like everybody on this party had. Her lashes were just slightly touched by mascara. There was no lipstick on her lips. They were plump, gently-virgin and as scarlet as it can only be, with a natural glitter. Her cheeks were rosy because of dancing. Her eyes were sparkling in the darkness of the crypt. The strand of her curly golden hair sticked out from the Witch’s Hat. And even her costume of the witch was not scaring. It looked like Fairy’s costume more than a Witch’s one. It was black, strewn by small violet stars. And also Jenny was the only conscious person among all them, because she didn’t drink the potion. She never drank too much alcohol during the parties. So she decided that the green bottle would be unnecessary for her and she just put it aside without being noticed.

Jenny was like a miracle among all these devils. In fact, she even didn’t want to come to the party. She liked parties of course, she didn’t like cemeteries.  But her friend, Susan, told her that Brian would be there. So she just wanted to look at him and if it was possible-to dance with him.

Jenny’s dreams came true. He was approaching her. She didn’t feel fear. The girl was just frozen in amazement. She never expected him to pay attention to her.

Brian: «Would you be my Queen? »

Jenny swallowed her tongue; she didn’t realize that she would die in some minutes. It was a feeling of complete happiness: he was talking to her!!! She just nodded like a lamb and gave him her hand.

He led her to the stage where the scythe and the vessel for her heart had already been prepared by Grim Riper. He stood nearby and grinned with a great pleasure. His face, covered by numerous scars, expressed absolute calmness. The moment, which he had been waiting for centuries, was coming. The humanity at least would be in his hands. Grim Ripper was sure that in a moment he would be the Lord of the World.

The girl went up the stairs to the stage. Grim Ripper was greatly impressed by her beauty.

Grim Ripper: «She is a real Queen! »

The crowd: «She is a real Queen! »

Grim Ripper wanted to look noble. He asked Jenny, if she had the last wish. He was sure she didn’t have any wishes. But she did. She wanted nothing except a kiss. She asked just to kiss her true love before being killed by his hand.

Grim Ripper couldn’t refuse. But he began to suspect that it should be a defeat. If only the boy feels the same… But, it’s impossible. He has already drunk the potion. He is brute, dead-hearted and insensible.

But the girl…She is so passionate, sensual and loving…

The shadow of a doubt passed over his face. He was ready to set her back. But it was too late…

Jenny came up to Brian, threw her arms around his neck and her hot breath touched his lips, then she kissed him…

 It was just a pure kiss of a virgin, a girl, who didn’t deny to give her life for the sake of her beloved boy.

And the miracle happened. It happened despite of evils` suspense to rule the world. It happened despite the fact that everybody there was fallen and vicious. It happened because it should be happened. Because at all times Good defeated Evil. And it will be so until at least one pure, innocent and true-loving heart is beating. It will be so.

The darkness dissipated. The ringing of the bells was heard. Evil spirits disappeared, dissolved in the smoke, crumbled into dust as if they had never existed. The ominous hissing and mumbling was heard for a while. And then everything became calm and silent.

The first rays of the dawn were setting inside the crypt through the narrow, small slits under the roof. The boys and the girls didn’t realize what had happen to them. The effect of the witch’s potion was over. They just remembered that they had chosen the King and the Queen of the Night and also had a great fun. They looked around and saw Black Prince and Little Witch on the stage. Children began to shout: “Brian! Brian! Jenny! Jenny!” But those two didn’t notice anyone. They were just holding their hands and looking into each other’s eyes and saw there the beginning of a new life, full of Love, Joy and Happiness.  

      

Achieve Your Goals

Why should you do everything in your power to achieve your goals? Why should you go through the trouble of disciplining yourself to take consistent action each and every day towards your goals? Why should you have to deal with setbacks and challenges that will bring you to your knees? Why do go through any of these things just to accomplish your goals? One reason is because if you don't, you will feel regret. The second reason is because you will miss your chance to change other people's lives.

When people get to the end of their lives, they will even feel fulfilled or full of regret. If there is something you have always wanted to do, do it. Even if there a possibility that you may fail, do it. Realize that most of the things we regret in life will come failing to take action, not taking action. In other words, we will have more regrets over the things that we didn't do than the things that we did do.

So when you achieve your goals, how does that affect other people's lives? Well, if you think about it, we are all motivated by one of two things. The first is desperation. When we become desperate, when our backs are against the wall, when there is no other choice, we will spring into action. There are hundreds of stories of people who went from being sick of being broke and living in poverty to becoming successful. The second reason people are motivated is inspiration.

When you see someone achieve massive success, you start to believe you can to. The problem is that many people see successful people as being lucky. Now if you achieve your goal, you will be able to inspire the people around you to believe in themselves because they won't see you as just being lucky. Whether you are trying to achieve your goals just realize that your success or failure in achieving that goal doesn't just affect you, it affects everyone around you.

Learning how to achieve your goals and more importantly, putting what you learn into action, will help inspire others to pursue their own goals with the same determination that you had in achieving your goals. No one said living your dreams was easy, it's not. That is why so many people end up quitting. There are far too many stories of failure and not enough stories of success. No matter how big or small your goal is, do everything you can to accomplish it. Your accomplishment can possibly inspire someone to become more than they thought they could become.

Who are you?

My name is Tatyana Ustujina, I am 24 year old. I’m a student of the 6 course

of the Tavrida Kerch University of Economics and Humanity. I learn there 2 languages: English and German. I think that it is very important to know foreign languages. And the English language has been elected as the world language and it has been respected in the world.

How did you learn English?

I started to learn English at school since I was a child. Classes were always fun and I learned very fast.

When I recall how I improved my English, I always think I was pretty lucky, but luck is also made by the effort.

I loved English and I got high marks in it because my father was interested in studying English, so he taught me the name of many objects in English .I read some English stories and watch some programmes and movies. I try to check dictionary for the pronunciation of the words .I want to improve my English and speak as native people. Sometimes I feel shy to speak and make mistake in pronunciation.

Now I study English at the institute and it helps me a lot. I need to learn more and more and I hope to improve my English and good accent.

What has English given you?

Studying English will be able to help to a person in many different aspects of their lives. When a student studies English they will be able to learn everything they will need to know about proper grammar and develop excellent writing skills that will be able to help them with any career they end up pursuing. Being able to think on your feet is a very important skill to have in any career path. Getting a degree in English will help provide a student with excellent critical thinking skills that will help them in any career.  The ability to brainstorm while in a meeting with a client or other employees is a skill everyone needs to have.

Studying English compositions can lead to teaching the subject afterward, but it can also lead to traveling around the globe and teaching the American language to others who don’t yet know it. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to teach and who also wants to travel.
